FCA fee table, updated 13 July 2026

FCA authorisation cost

The FCA charges a non-refundable application fee set by one of 10 pricing categories, from £280 for category 1 to £225,170 for category 10. A limited permission consumer credit firm pays category 2 (£560); most general insurance intermediaries pay category 4 (£2,820). The cost of preparing the application is extra, and none of the 49 consultancy and law firm pages we read publishes it. Tell us what you are applying for and Joe will talk it through.

Every provider below was read on its own page through our fetch box, and the row says what that page published on the day we read it. 2 of 18 publish a figure; the rest are listed too, because how many will not quote a number is the most useful thing about this market. Nothing here is a quote for your job: it is what other people advertise.

Every row is a verbatim sentence read from the named source's own page through our fetch service on the date shown, hash-pinned to the stored read (the sha of the page's visible text; the raw page is mirrored to R2). 2 of the 18 named sources that could be read published a usable figure; 16 published none and are recorded as not published, never filled in; 0 could not be read (blocked, dead or unreachable) and count nowhere. The headline figures (median, minimum, maximum, quartiles) are over ONE figure per source for each breakdown it prices, in GBP (a source's median where its page yielded several accepted sentences for one breakdown), so a page that gives figures for several breakdowns gives one for each and N counts 20 figures, never sentences; 141 candidate sentence(s) were refused by a reviewer with the reason recorded. The fuller derivation this dataset is chartered to grow into (not yet what the figures above are; they are each source's own published figure as read): permission -> pricing category -> fee (category 1 £280 to category 10 £225,170 as the FCA states), the category for each common firm type, and the change on the previous year's table

How it works

  1. Tell us what you need and how to reach you. About a minute, no account.
  2. Joe reads it himself and replies directly. Nobody else receives it.
  3. You get a short call to talk it through. Go ahead with something, ask more, or do nothing.

This is a free information site, not the FCA. When you send an enquiry, Joe, who runs this site, reads it and replies to you himself; no firm receives your details and you pay nothing to ask. It carries no advertising, no sponsored placement and no affiliate links. Every fee is quoted from the FCA's own pages with a link and the date we read them. Nothing here is legal, regulatory or investment advice, and we do not help anyone carry on a regulated activity; check the FCA's page before you rely on a figure.

The questions we get

How much does FCA authorisation cost?

The FCA application fee runs from £280 (category 1) to £225,170 (category 10), set by the permissions you apply for. Most insurance intermediaries pay £2,820; limited permission consumer credit firms pay £560.(FCA: authorisation and registration application fees (updated 13 July 2026))

Is the FCA application fee refundable?

No. The FCA's application pages say the fee is non-refundable, and it is not returned if you withdraw or are refused.(FCA: cryptoasset registration, how to apply)

What does it cost to have the application prepared?

None of the 49 consultancy and law firm pages we read publishes its own preparation fee, so the only way to know is to ask.(FCA application fee categories: every row, with its source)

Where do these figures come from, and when were they read?

From the FCA's own fee pages, last updated 13 July 2026, read on 28 October 2026 and stored with a hash of the page text.(FCA application fee categories: every row, with its source)

Who answers an enquiry from this page?

Joe, who runs this site, reads every enquiry himself and replies directly. No firm receives your details. He gives information and a free call, never regulatory advice.
